Futurity Rules

~ Futurity Rules ~


  1. The Cocker Spaniel Club of Orange County, Inc. Futurity Stake is open to all purebred Cocker Spaniel litters bred by regular and junior members who have attended four (4) business meetings in the last twelve months prior to the nomination of the bitch. At least one (1) of the owners must be a member in good standing of the Cocker Spaniel Club of Orange County.
     
  2. Puppies will be judged at the annual Specialty Show (or supported show), and must be eligible for and entered in a regular class at this show.
     
  3. Bitch nominations shall be made by notifying the Futurity Chairman in writing, giving the name of the bitch and to whom she was bred, the approximate date of whelping, the name of the bitch’s owner and the bitch’s registration number.
     
  4. Bitches nominated in connection with the Futurity must be nominated exactly as ownership is recorded with the American Kennel Club. At least one (1) of the owners must be a member in good standing of the Cocker Spaniel Club of Orange County.
     
  5. Bitch nominations must be received by the Futurity Chairman before the puppies are whelped and must be accompanied by a $10.00 Bitch Nomination Fee.
     
  6. Late bitch nominations will be accepted by payment of a $15.00 penalty fee in addition to the regular $10.00 bitch nomination fee. The late nomination must be received by the Futurity Chairman in writing prior to the puppies reaching six (6) weeks of age.
     
  7. Individual puppies from properly nominated litters may be nominated by notifying the Futurity Chairman in writing, giving the color, sex and date of birth of each puppy nominated.
     
  8. Individual puppy nominations must be received by the Futurity Chairman by May 1st for the Futurity and must be accompanied by a $5.00 fee for each puppy nominated individually.
     
  9. LATE PUPPY NOMINATIONS SHALL NOT BE ACCEPTED.
     
  10. Puppies purchased from the member breeders may be nominated provided eligibility has been maintained.
     
  11. Puppies whelped May 1st through April 30th shall compete in the next Futurity Stake. After receipt of the individual puppy nominations the Futurity Chairman shall notify the owners of properly nominated puppies.
     
  12. ALL NOMINATION FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE.
     
  13. Entry fee of $4.00 for each puppy entered in the Futurity Stake must accompany the regular class entry stating Futurity Class.
     
  14. All puppies shall be judged together according to age NOT divided by sex or variety, as follows:
     
    • Junior Puppies 6 months and under 9 months
    • Senior Puppies 9 months and older
       
  15. Best in Futurity Awards will be awarded to both age groups, Best Junior Puppy and Best Senior Puppy.
     
  16. For each age group the club shall retain 15% of the entry fees for expenses. 100% of the remaining entry fees of each age group will divided equally between the class winners as follows:

  17. If any prize monies are not awarded for any reason, they shall revert to the Club.
     
  18. The amendments reflected in this revision, dated October 01, 2015, shall be effective for bitches nominated for the 2016 Cocker Spaniel Club of Orange County annual Specialty Show.
